SEPTEMBER 25, 2010: CITY MURALS TOUR

"City Murals" trolley tour takes place Saturday, September 25, from 3-5 p.m. leaving from 77 Market Street, Newark, NJ. See large-scale public murals being created by artists and youth throughout Newark. City Murals is a collaboration with the City of Newark, Prudential Foundation, Rutgers University Transitional Education and Employment Management (TEEM) Gateway, and other community partners. Two watercolors by Palmer Hayden, the famous Harlem Renaissance artist, will be included in Swann Galleries, Inc. African-American Fine Art Auction on October 7, 2010 starting at 2:30 p.m. at 104 East 25th Street, New York, NY 10010 (212-254-4710). The Benny Andrews Foundation, Inc. of Litchfield, Connecticut donated the original, signed watercolors entitled Girl with Cat and Untitled (The Carousel Wharf) to support cWOW's educational programs for youth such as ArtReach, City Murals, and Newark New Media.

Join cWOW Executive Director Ben Goldman for “Environmental Justice in New Jersey,” a critical panel discussion on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Nutley Public Library, 93 Booth Drive, Nutley, NJ 07110 (973-667-0405). In addition to Dr. Goldman, who co-authored the landmark 1987 study “Toxic Wastes and Race in the United States,” distinguished panelists include: Valorie Caffee, B.S., Chair of the Environmental Justice Advisory Council to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and Board Member of GreenFaith, and Deborah Kim Gaddy, B.S., Environmental Justice Organizer for the New Jersey Environmental Federation. This panel discussion was made possible by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Free and open to the public.
