Since its inception, cWOW has been building neighborhood pride, and training youth for the 21st Century through public art projects and community collaborations. City Murals works with community-based organizations to produce large-scale public murals throughout the city of Newark, with professional artists mentoring teams of high-school apprentices in a summer-learning and training program. The mural teams engaged the community in an interactive design process that results in a permanent work of public art that speaks to local concerns and aspirations. The completed murals are testimony to a collaborative process that builds community, character, and contemporary culture.
