Ben Goldman - Fabian Saa
Ben Goldman and Arts High student Fabian Saa were a compatible pair that developed a friendship in which they were able to address their differences and their common ground. The fact that Fabian was born in Ecuador and Ben in the United States led them to survey what we can call, the diasporic experience of art. As Ben puts it, “This quartet of paintings explores communications across cultural and experiential divides.” The pieces shown here are part of a collaborative process, where the two artists explored their memories of other places from different subjective positions like the tourist and the immigrant and its correspondent process of adaptation and assimilation. They were explored from our permanently constructed space: home.
But what is home, a place, a memory a feeling? What is the meaning of being at home at this moment of globalization?
