Dear Friends of cWOW,
This year marked a critical moment in cWOW’s history. Our Board of Trustees has worked tirelessly and creatively to foster our mission of supporting the careers of emerging artists, provide arts education for local youth and engage our community. We know the value of the arts. We know the joy and healing it brings, the value of self-expression, the importance of critique of the times in which we live, and the bridge the arts can provide to those seeking creative solutions for the future. We engage youth in a way that helps them see the arts as a option and a career path that is attainable. The exhibitions and programs we present inspire others to keep their dreams alive and well nurtured.
In 2016, cWOW supporters banded together to help preserve our acclaimed ArtReach program which partners high school art students with accomplished artist mentors, culminating in a group exhibition to celebrate their collaborative work.
We are grateful for the successes of the past year. Recently, we had special guest at the closing event for our final exhibition of the year, The 5 Wards which celebrated the diverse people and places throughout the City of Newark. 93-year old Gladys Grauer, Newark’s oldest living artist and former cWOW board member joined us along with over 250 attendees to express her continued support for the organization. “All the work we did has been for this moment. We did it for you all. We planted a seed,” she said.
I can’t tell you how honored I am by this passing of this torch. In 2017, we will continue cWOW’s tradition of engaging artists, community and future leaders in the field. But we need your support. Currently, we are preparing a new call for submissions for our annual cWOW Metro Show with an amazing panel of jurors and opportunities for artists. We will also partner with Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District, a local sustainable community development organization, to bring ArtReach participants on a trip to visit the new National Museum of African American History and Culture. With your continued support we can continue engaging exhibitions and programs like ArtReach.
There’s so much on the horizon for cWOW. Individual donors like you energize and fuel our efforts. Please consider making a donation today.
Wishing all a productive and passionate new year!
